Come join me this Wednesday for Zumba at Show-Me Yoga. It will be July 1 at 7 p.m. Hope to see you there all decked out in your red, white and blue! Write me if you have any questions or need directions.
We added a flamenco number to our Zumba class this week. A lot of flamenco is in the attitude! Here is “Buleria” for your practice. No comments please on how I do not look like this Zumba instructor. Just to let you know, you guys don’t quite look like these class participants, either! But, next time I ask all of you to wear the same color outfits to class, you might want to worry!
Here is the new salsa song I just added to class. For those joining me for the first time this week - a salsa basic is a step right to the right (1) step left in place (2) step the right back by the left (3) and hold (4) then reverse. Although a lot goes into my song/dance choices including getting a variety of styles, working different parts of the body, mixing high and low for interval training, etc. one deciding factor is finding songs I think sound “fun” or songs that I really like. This is one of them. Peforming it is Willy Chirino. Sorry the quality isn’t the best. Practice now! Cross front (r,l,r,hold) reverse, etc. and try some varieties of the salsa basic such as front and back to this performance of “Los Campeones de la Salsa.”
Your practice video for January. This is from Jesus in Mexico. He’s a favorite right now among Zumba teachers. We call him by his nickname “Bordermex” and this is his version of “Pachuca” by Kumbia Kings.
Debbie Parker from my Woodcrest class, James, and I donned Santa hats for the November show. The last appearance of the year was Dec 29 with a little Ricky Martin music! Ashley from Linn and Phobe from Columbia danced with James and me on the December program. The next show appearance will be in late January. Let me know if you are available on a Friday morning to join me on the show.
Here’s the link to the story written in the Columbia Tribunes’s Lifestyle Magazine Pulse. Editor Caroline Dohack visited the Woodcrest class. Luckily the photographer was quite far from me when he took the photo! Thank you to the participants for their patience when my nervousness made me forget even the easiest steps!
Thanks to Darla and Brittney Voss for joining me on this month’s Pepper and Friends Show. And, oh yeah, there was an unexpected field trip group that also joined us! You can view the show by going to the following link, select “Performances” and go to “Zumba Fitness.”
Below is the source of the song we have started using this week as our Zumba belly dance warmup. It is a very famous song worldwide. It was voted number nine in the Top 10 Songs of All Time in international voting. It has been used in many other productions including the movie “Inside Man” and an episode of CSI. Here is the very famous train scene from the Hindi movie “Dil Se” where it first became famous. You will recognize some of the moves we are using (as well as see some that we are not!!)
